Designer reminisces about McQueen● FashionBy Sunday Sector
Shaun Leane and Lee McQueen would discuss new ideas any pint of beer.
Shaun, this celebrated jeweller, shared a close friendly relationship with Lee, who helmed frappe Alexander McQueen before he took his very own life in 2010.
An exhibition providing Lee's work is on display to be found at London's Victoria & Albert Public, with Shaun hosting a private a meal and viewing for guests incorporate Yasmin Le Bon and Jodie Kidd.
"We were best friends and so 22 years old. We'd finish projects and go and have a ale at [east London pub] Your Eagle on Farringdon Road and so catch up, then talk about work and encourage each other and get excited and discussion the next show – that's upon which our ideas would come, " Shaun recalled to WWD.
Alexander McQueen: Ferocious Beauty opened last month and is you see until August 2 . It ranges from Lee's 1992 MA graduate student collection to his unfinished Autumn/Winter 10 line.
Talking about a silver antique bodice that he designed for the label, Shaun reveals it wasn't thought in a conventional fashion studio.
"When Document look at that piece it makes me be happy because we designed it much more than a serviette at The Eagle… and then it then hit the runway of Givenchy iPhone 6 Plus cases couture [for spring 2000] doing Paris, " he laughed.
Included in the exhibition there is a Cabinet of Curiosities, a room filled with the atavistic and so fetishistic creations made by Lee or other accessory designers, including milliner Philip Treacy.
Shaun has never forgotten so how special it was to work with Lee and so reveals it helped launch his very own career.
"Lee gave me total ease and a platform where I could ways of my ideas. He helped me convey boundaries from my traditional security training. There was such an energy - everyone who worked for McQueen most likely was always so inspired, respected your guy so much and valued his attention and his genius - we wanted to provide evidence that anything was possible and we executed. And so did he, " Shaun said.
