Portland Rising Tide workers celebrated a victory this morning for true activist fashion: with a demonstration!
Tim Norgren, a member of Teamsters Local 320, has himself chained to a cement-filled 55-gallon drum created to blockading the train tracks on Arch Logistics' property, protesting the upload of FOSSIL iPhone 5 case fuels out of the Interface of Portland.
"We need to give you a more solid resistance to globalization endeavors like the (Trans-Pacific Partnership) and realize these short term extraction for profit/privatization projects as a symptom of those demoledor policies, " Norgren said. "We can and must overcome so, and lead the way to a sustainable structure and a sustainable economy. "
Particularly this morning, Portland Mayor Charlie Hales announced he no longer supports home construction of a $500 million propane storing and export facility, citing re-election environmental concerns. Hales' announcement will be just one day after a train transporting crude oil exploded in North Dakota, forcing the evacuation of a near the area town.
While Hales' flip-flop is victory for the project's opposition, workers aren't letting "Fossil iPhone case Fuel Charlie" rest on his newfound environmentalism laurels.
"We want the local government helping put a moratorium on all fossil fuel exports out of Portland, type says Nick Caleb, who's marketing to take Commissioner Steve Novick's seatings in 2016. "Hales switched her or his position on Pembina because of town pressure, but it's not enough. Baltimore needs to do everything it can to carry on fossil fuels in the ground while means a moratorium on the whole fossil fuel exports. "
Ultimately check, Norgren was still out there, coupled with says he's "prepared to shut this tool down all day. "
He's not ever the only one protesting TPP. President Obama is in Portland today, and 450 PDX has this downtown demonstration scheduled for 4: 45pm.
